The first edition of Beirut Design Fair #BDF was officially launched on Thursday July 13th and will be held at BIEL from 20 to 24 September taking place in parallel with Beirut Art Fair.
During these four days, the contemporary art and design fairs will provide space and opportunities for the creative energies of Beirut to nourish and thrive with exciting events and activities focused on art and design and a unique networking and amazement opportunity.
I present to you 10 facts you didn’t know about the 1st edition of BDF
FACT1 AIM AND GOAL
Guillaume Taslé d’Héliand, founder and director of Beirut Design fair, and Hala Moubarak, co-founder and head of exhibitor relations aim from the fair to broaden awareness of modern and contemporary design, becoming an annual destination for architects, designers, buyers, investors and media.
FACT2 THE BANQUET
Exhibited for the 1st time to the public in the heart of BDF, an exceptional 8 m x 2.20 m monumental table sculpted from 50,000-year-old wood welcomes guests in a space named The Banquet.
Created by YEW Studio with Rani kik, The Banquet will provide a dedicated space in which participants and visitors will be encouraged to exchange ideas, perspectives and discoveries. Around it participants will be invited to gather and taste some of Lebanon’s greatest delicacies, provided by renowned chef Maroun Chedid.
FACT3 3D SHOW
The biggest 3D machine in the Middle East will be present during the fair producing 1 chair each day by Guillaume Crédoz. The 4 exclusive BDF edition chairs produced during the 4 days of the fair will be sold on the last day during a special auction.
FACT4 SPOT ON
SPOT ON is a space dedicated to the discovery of the region’s most promising young or independent designers. Each selected designer will showcase one or two creations in a shared pavilion.
FACT5 MAISON & OBJET
The French fair MAISON&OBJET partner of Beirut Design Fair for its first edition in 2017 is organizing during the fair in Beirut an event targeting architects and interior decorators with the presence of a specially dedicated team. In return, MAISON&OBJET will host Lebanese designers in its September 2018 edition in France. A special platform, “Rising Talents”, will be dedicated to them where visitors will discover “the talents of today and tomorrow”.
FACT6 “ Beirut Designs, Beyrouth conçoit, بيروت تصمم ”
A workshop dedicated for kids in collaboration with “Madar Onboz”. This educational program will have continuity all year long in schools to introduce design thinking through a story and a game.
FACT7 VINTAGE DESIGN facing CONTEMPORARY DESIGN
The fair will showcase a mix between contemporary design and vintage furniture.
FACT8 MADE IN LEBANON
The aim of the fair is to emphasize the “MADE IN LEBANON” and to position Beirut as the Middle-East design epicenter
FACT9 Beirut Design Award
For its first edition, Beirut Design Fair has assembled an exceptional selection committee whose members are attached to Beirut and Lebanon either by origin or by affinity and they will also participate in the attribution of the Beirut Design Award for creativity and innovation during the salon.
